![]() The encore is crazy too with a reprise of the peak in the Floes jam right before the final RLH crescendo. Brownstein was dropping major bombs all night. The Waves in between a Dribble sandwich that precedes it is epic too, but man, the Floes>HDPF is incredible. That may be saying a lot, but just listen to the Floes>House Dog for what may be the greatest Bisco jam ever. Set 2 makes up for that times 1000.Īfter an unusually great Fiddler, the Biscuits begin a musical journey that ranks right up there with some of the best music I've heard. This first set is decent, with a good Story and Kamaole, but it does have what I think is the worst Triumph ever, segued to a weak Crater. is what you can hear people shouting during the encore applause, and their exclamations aren't without merit. Stellar show and for that matter stellar composition and musicianship. Thank you Larry and thanks for helping the Biscuits along the way by providing a venue where these classics could get a start. ![]() He is a normal guy who just loved music and wanted a space to talk about social issues. The originator of this club lives in Brattleboro,VT now. At the same time, the Wetlands was closing its doors and in turn closing a place that helped so many neo-jam-hippie-conscious-passionate bands get their start. The point is, this was a celebration night of how far the Biscuits had come.there songs had become classics in just a few short years. Sammy was nice enough to buy us shots of Jack before the show. My buddy Gabe and I drove down from Vermont for this show. The funny thing about the Wetlands is that the venue itself was kind of a hole in the wall with an ackward stage set up where the front of the stage was narrow and most people danced on the sides never actually looking straight onto the band. All the Biscuit tunes were written and debuted once but never were so many classics performed for the first time then at the beloved Wetlands. Ten days before 9/11, the disco biscuits pulled out all the songs that were debuted at the Wetlands. I attended this show and remember it as the closing of the Wetlands Biscuit Style. In sum, raging redefined is a fine way to think of 9/1/01. Run sprints out of the gate, back into the Pygmy Twilight briefly, then redefines raging one last time with the back end of Run. Pygmye leads off, then into Run Like Hell. The encore picks up right where set 2 leaves off - super tight playing only overshadowed by extraordinary seging. The Housedog is utterly out of control easily dwarfing any other version I've heard. Floes is the best I've ever heard, is monstrously entertaining, and segues into Housedog with jaw dropping precision. Listen for the first allusions of Floes around the fifteen minute mark. Jedi like jamming ensues characteristic only of 9/1/01. Waves soars to all new heights before crashing back into Dribble. Roughly 18 mins in it becomes clear that a perverse inversion of Waves is next. Dribble is the sickest ever played and displays what I call the imminent evil jam (5 mins in). DRIBBLE>WAVES>DRIBBLE>FLOES>HOUSEDOG knows no equal. ![]() Mindless Dribble begins what is easily one of the most memorable song strains ever assembled by the Biscuits. Once the Fiddler is rare and rages, but more then that it allows you to be caught off guard by what comes next. ![]() Set 2 in any fair assessment obliterates nearly any other set ever played - possibly by any band, ever. Home Again is high energy and a great choice to end a very good 1st set. Kamole starts off smoking and then gets slightly psychedelic before settling back within its theme. Haleakala is rare and has beautiful lyrics so good stuff there. Additionally, listen for the slight Story tease toward the end - immediately followed by a serene streaming segue of which Haleakala Crater emerges. While it may not live up to other more recent versions you will hear bare in mind it is one of the first ever played, and thus unique in that regard. Story pushes the limits of sound and synergy and serves as a sonic precursor of things to come. Like Pacino in Scarface this show absolutely dominates.įrom the outset and the Story opener it's evident that more than just another show lie in store. ![]()
